Matias J. Ocner graduated from Florida International University with a bachelor’s in journalism and mass communications and a concentration in photography. He was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and raised in Miami. Ocner has produced multimedia stories for the Miami Herald, News21, Scripps Howard Foundation Wire and South Florida News Service.
Ocner interned for the Miami Herald and El Nuevo Herald at the start of 2016 as a bilingual multimedia photojournalist covering breaking news, sports, features, art & entertainment, community stories and more. He has had photos and videos published in the Miami Herald and El Nuevo Herald and on their websites.
In January 2015, Ocner worked with News21, a national journalism fellowship program based at Arizona State University, to produce investigative stories, photography and videos focused on marijuana. The work was published in August and has appeared in USA Today and The Washington Post, among others.
While interning at Scripps Howard Foundation Wire in October 2015, Ocner produced stories, photos and video for their online publication.
Ocner is now a freelance photographer in South Florida and strives to specialize in visual storytelling. He hopes to use journalism as a tool to increase awareness, challenge assumptions and keep society informed.
